Biography

University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business

Rosemary Grant's career spans senior roles in both the global healthcare industry and the UK public sector. Her signature business strengths are people development, international business re-structuring and operational excellence. She has an outstanding record of delivering business performance while balancing the human dimensions of rapid change. This unique breadth of leadership experience is the foundation for her current focus on executive coaching and customised leadership development.

Rosemary joined Johnson & Johnson, the world's largest healthcare corporation, in 1992 and served 15 years as a statutory director on the main board of the UK Company, a billion dollar enterprise. Executive responsibilities included shared services, finance, human resources, supply chain, customer services, information management, health economics and healthcare compliance. Exceeding combined budget and talent development targets saw her leadership and the organisation, achieving several business excellence awards.

In 2005 Johnson & Johnson extended Rosemary's portfolio to include leadership of the diversity strategy for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Initiatives were launched to foster diversity at board level with particular emphasis on retaining women leaders. In collaboration with the University of Cape Town, a programme was created for high potential women which continues to achieve outstanding success with a 35% promotion rate among the 250 delegates. As a result of this ground-breaking work, Rosemary was honoured with the Worldwide Chairman's award for leadership.

In 2013 the relationship with the University of Cape Town was re-established when the Business School appointed Rosemary and her colleague Liz de Wet as programme directors, to design and deliver a new open programme for Women leaders. Rosemary started training as a professional coach in 2005 and set up an internal capability at Johnson & Johnson to coach senior leaders and emerging fast track executives. It was the impact and feedback from coaching talented leaders which stimulated the desire to change career direction and establish her own company in 2010 dedicated to coaching and leadership development.

Her coaching practice takes an integrated and pragmatic approach, assisting leaders to build personal mastery with areas of focus including self awareness and confidence, leading through influence especially in matrix structures, personal transitions, critical incident management and the importance of connection and networks. Current clients include corporate executives based across Europe and Africa as well as senior leaders in public organisations.Leadership programmes are created in partnership with Liz de Wet, a renowned practitioner, and are tailored to the needs of each organisation and its leadership strategy. The methodology is grounded in the practise of leadership and learning takes place using current business challenges, storytelling and action back in the workplace. Current assignments include working with leaders following major business re-structuring, teams involved in outsourcing projects and customised leadership development programmes for senior executives in both established and emerging markets.

Rosemary's professional qualifications include BSc, MBA and CIPD. Formal coach training began in 2005 with the Coach-U corporation. She enhanced her qualifications with the Academy of Executive Coaching, graduating with the Advanced Diploma in 2009. Recent areas of study have included the Thinking Partnership programme with Nancy Kline, Gestalt methodology and mindfulness practise.

Her coaching and leadership practitioner work blend extensive business experience with a personal philosophy of ethical and sustainable leadership.
