Biography
Babson Olin Graduate School of Business
Academic Division: Arts & HumanitiesRosa Slegers teaches introductory, intermediate, and advanced philosophy courses in the undergraduate program and organizes and leads discussions on business ethics in the MBA programs at Babson. Her undergraduate teaching focuses on philosophical ethics, existentialism, and philosophy & literature. Most of her classes are interdisciplinary in nature, integrating philosophical reflection with scientific developments (e.g. in primatology and personal robotics), literature, film, and pop culture. She also designs and teaches ethics sessions exploring issues in management, accounting, economics and marketing in Babson’s integrated Two Year, One Year, Fast Track, and Evening MBA programs. Her book Courageous Vulnerability (Brill, 2011) draws on the philosophies of William James, Henri Bergson, and Gabriel Marcel to frame a cluster of moral and aesthetic attitudes in Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time. Other publications at the intersection of philosophy and literature focus on the themes of hope, evil, and the uncanny. She has also written on the integration of virtue ethics and sociobiology and is currently working on the moral philosophy of Adam Smith and its implications for business ethics education today. Professor Slegers received a PhD in Philosophy from Fordham University (2007), an MA in Philosophy (2002) and an MA in Literary Theory (2003) from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), and an MBA from Babson College (2013). She worked for two years as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Centre College, KY, before coming to Babson in 2009.
