He is an INCAE full time professor, and teaches courses Macroeconomic Analysis, Corporate Finance and Economic Policy. Academic Director of Business Leadership Program at INCAE Development. He has taught at the University of Costa Rica. Dean (1991-1994) and Director of the Master of Business Economics (1987-1990) for the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development. He has been president of the Central Bank of Costa Rica, Minister of Finance, Governor of Costa Rica to the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. In the private sector, he has participated in several boards, including: SAMA Financial Group (Chairman of the Board from 1998 to 2002), Industria Nacional de Cemento SA, Costa Rica, Semanario El Financiero, Costa Rica, Banco de COFISA, Costa Rica, FUNDES, Costa Rica, CHORD, Costa Rica, Atlas Electric, Ricalit SA, Costa Rica, Concrete Products, Costa Rica, Agricultural Development Bank
