Heinz College

Technical innovator whose work on software architectural views has had a noted impact on the architecture discipline and industry best practices.

Robert Nord is a principal researcher at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) where he works to develop and communicate effective methods and practices for software architecture. Most recently, he is leading research in strategies for managing technical debt and scaling agile development by incorporating architecture practices. Prior to joining the SEI, he worked in industry, where he balanced research in software architecture with work in designing and evaluating large-scale systems. He earned a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a co-author of the practitioner-oriented books, Applied Software Architecture, Documenting Software Architectures: Views and Beyond, and Managing Technical Debt: Reducing Friction in Software Development.
