Biography
Imperial College London
Robbie is a lecturer in Photonics in the Physics Department in the Femtosecond Optics Group, developing next-generation mid-infrared light sources for a range of applications. His research interests lie at the interface between nonlinear optics, laser physics and novel light source development. The research is driven by a broad range of applications from security to biomedicine.
His current research is aimed at developing light sources throughout the mid-infrared for precision tissue ablation and analysis techniques. His team is developing new techniques to improve the resolution and speed of various mass spectrometric tissue analysis techniques, including single-cell level mass spectrometry metabolic imaging, very high throughput sample analysis, and precision tumour resection guidance tools. He is also investigating the use of gas filled hollow core fibres to generate high pulse energy sources in the first atmospheric transmission window, for a range of applications across medicine and security.
He currently holds funding from the EPSRC (New Investigator Award) and the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development. Robbie has an international network of collaborators across the world, in industry and academia, and is always on the look out for talented people to join his team.
