Dr. Richard Priore is a leading expert on healthcare system transformation. The intersection of his extensive professional and academic backgrounds lends both relevant industry perspective and an objective evidenced-based approach. With this he is creating innovative care models, improving patient safety and clinical outcomes. They drive for measurable operational efficiency, expanding capacity, and reducing unnecessary waste and cost.

He is the President and CEO of Excelsior HealthCare Group, an outcomes-driven healthcare management consulting firm specializing in the assessment, execution, and speed of measurable results in improving organizational performance through engaging and aligning the interests of key stakeholders.

Dr. Priore’s leadership experience spans more than 25 years in the for-profit, not-for-profit, and government healthcare sectors. He has worked in senior executive roles within integrated and academic health systems, physician-owned specialty hospitals, and large multispecialty group practices. He’s served as the CEO for several hospitals and as a turnaround expert and Managing Director for the Hunter Group.

He’s developed and instructed educational programs as a faculty member for numerous top-ranked academic institutions. These include Rush University, Robert Morris University, University of Texas, University of Minnesota, and University of St. Thomas. He is a Senior Research Fellow for the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health and was a principal architect of the CMS Acute Care Episode (ACE) Demonstration project. His work with ACE lead to the current policies and programs that created better alignment eliminating unnecessary services, improved coordination of care, and achieved better patient outcomes. It is an increasingly popular model among both federal and commercial payers in a value-based environment.

He is a frequent national speaker and facilitator of educational programs for leading healthcare organizations, associations, and Fortune 500 companies. These include the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He teaches several popular courses, including New Management Skills for a Transformational Era, Optimizing Business and Clinical Outcomes Through Physician-Executive Collaboration, Monetizing Quality in a Pay for Value World, and Closing the Gap in Physician Engagement, Alignment, and Integration in a Value-Based Environment.

He earned a Doctorate in Health Systems Management from Tulane University and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Baylor University. He is board certified in healthcare management and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Certified Medical Practice Executive and Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE).
