Biography

Prof. Reuben O. Marwanga holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University, a Masters in Industrial Engineering & Management from Fourah Bay College and a BSC (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He is an Alumnus of both Fulbright and UNESCO Fellowships. Currently, he is the Dean of Faculty of Information Technology in the Strathmore University and teaches operations management in the MBA and executive education programs. He has extensive teaching experience in management and technology. Prior to joining Strathmore, he taught at the Graduate School of Management and Technology at the University of Maryland University College, Maryland, USA. He has also previously taught at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA; United States International University in Nairobi; and the University of Nairobi. During his academic career he has taught a variety of management and technology courses including operations management, strategic management for technology and innovation, quantitative methods for management, product design, project management, project risk management, scheduling and resource allocation, operations research and manufacturing systems. Besides teaching, he has significant experience as a management consultant and researcher in the areas of operations management, business process management, project management, risk management, technology management, and manufacturing systems. Most of his consulting and research projects were done through ACRA, a management consulting firm he co-founded in 1998 and is based in Laurel, Maryland, USA. ACRA focuses on the needs of small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) such as Owen Software Development Corporation, which he guided through two rounds of seed funding and was admitted to the Maryland Technology Development Center, an incubator for hi-tech companies. He has consulted with other information technology companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, development banks and financial investment firms assisting them with business process management, project planning and management, and project monitoring and evaluation. Recently, he founded PIMA Capital Partners, an investment firm based in Nairobi that is focused on helping people build wealth through investing in public corporations. He has published several journal articles and was recognized by the American Foundrymen’s Society in 2000 for advancing the U.S. foundry industry. In 2004, he was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to participate in evaluating projects in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In addition to teaching, research and consulting, he has intense interest in public service for the betterment of society. He has been involved in various community initiatives both in the USA and Kenya. He helped found the following organizations: Kenya Community Abroad (KCA), Kenya Diaspora Network (KDN), and Strathmore Alumni and Friends Association (STRAFA).
