Biography

The London School of Economics and Political Science

Rebecca Newton, PhD, is an Organisational Psychologist and Senior Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the Department of Management. She has spent 20 years researching and teaching on leadership, change, communication, professional development, and management practice. She is co-responsible for the Capstone: Management in Practice course on the Global Masters in Management programme. Her doctoral research was in the psychology of leadership and change management in the context of law firm mergers and acquisitions. Dr Newton was a Visiting Fellow in the Psychology Department at Harvard University, and has facilitated executive education for LSE, Duke Corporate Education, the University of Cambridge and on the Accelerated Leadership Program at Harvard Law School.

Dr Newton has spent two decades coaching and advising leaders and teams on organisational change, leadership, culture, communication and influence. She is the Founder and CEO of CoachAdviser and works with clients globally, applying psychological profiling and behavioural diagnostic tools, coaching senior leadership teams and designing bespoke professional development programs. She has experience across technology, finance, pharma, construction, telecoms, creative, legal, and consulting sectors. Example organisations Dr Newton has worked with include Coca-Cola Enterprises, Google, HSBC, Industrial Bank of China, London Crossrail, Microsoft, Mishcon de Reya, Nike, PwC, State Bank of India, and WeWork. She has worked with clients across North America, Europe, China, India and the Middle East.

Dr Newton has spoken at the Harvard Kennedy School Conference on Intergroup Leadership, and the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, and chaired sessions for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and the British Psychological Society. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Change Management, has contributed numerous chapters to books on leadership and organisational change, and is a regular contributor to the Harvard Business Review. Her first book, Authentic Gravitas: Who Stands Out and Why, was released in 2019.
