Biography
Raymond Aller, MD graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1976 and received Board Certifications in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Transfusion Medicine. For the past 16 years, he has served as Professor of Pathology and Professor of Medical Informatics at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, Director of Chemical Pathology and Laboratory Informatics at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and Clinical Pathology and Medical Director of Laboratories at John P. Blanchard, M.D., Inc.
Dr. Aller has been active in national medical and healthcare informatics organizations and has served on numerous committees, including as president of the Association for Pathology Informatics in 2012. He is frequently asked to present at national meetings on informatics, clinical pathology, and transfusion medicine. He has published 67 invited articles, 22 books, monographs, and chapters, and 24 peer reviewed papers on clinical informatics topics.
With over 22 years, Dr. Aller is considered an authority on the use of information technology and its applications to healthcare to ensure and improve patient safety and efficiency. He designed the first online surgical pathology information system in the United States, which later became the prototype for anatomic pathology automation tools that most U.S. hospitals use today. The Association for Pathology Informatics is proud to recognize Dr. Aller’s enormous contributions to the field as the recipient of the 2005 API Honorary Fellow Award.
