Biography

Harvard Medical School

I am an anesthesiologist and intensivist with administrative experience as ICU medical director, anesthesiology division chief, and critical care fellowship director. My operating room focus has been in the care of complex vascular surgery patients, including those undergoing thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair with anesthetic techniques designed to provide spinal cord protection. My skill sets include airway management, placement of vascular access, management of multiorgan dysfunction in the critically ill, and communicating honestly and empathetically with families of the critically ill at end of life. I serve as a member of my department's quality and safety and clinical affairs committees. I excel at teaching and education and have an interest in high performance team-based care, quality improvement and curriculum development. At a national level, I am a board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Palliative Care and am enrolled in an ACGME AIRE (Advancing Innovation in Residency Education) fellowship in Community Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship through the University of Colorado, Anschutz, which will commence in August 2022. My career plan is to integrate palliative care into my perioperative care of patients while also providing education about this discipline to my peers and trainees in anesthesiology. Palliative care is focused on relieving suffering and improving quality of life for patients and their families. Palliative care training will help me to better match therapies provided in the ICU and operating room to the preferences of my patients. I anticipate completing training and achieving board eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in September 2024.
