Biography
Dr. Probal Mojumder is the inaugural IIMU Young Faculty Research Chair (2021-2024) and an Assistant Professor in the Operations Management, Quantitative Methods, and Information Systems Area at the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU).
Before joining IIMU, Probal was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles (2018-2019), and a Research Associate at the Srini Raju Centre for Information Technology and the Networked Economy (SRITNE) at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (2010-2012).
He conducts research on business and societal questions using data science, machine learning, econometrics, and randomized experiments as tools. Specifically, his studies look at the impact of IT-artifacts in digital and physical platforms, with the goal towards making online markets and organizational dependencies efficient. As consequence, he has studied impact of specific IT-enabled features in online dating platforms, e-commerce portals, and online classified-ad sites.
His research got published in several top-tier international academic journals such as Information Systems Research (ISR) and Production and Operations Management (POM). His work also got presented at the following international conferences: International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Conference on Digital Experimentation (CODE) at MIT, Workshop on Information Systems and Economics (WISE), INFORMS Conference of Information Systems and Technology (CIST), Winter Conference on Business Analytics (WCBA), Industry Studies Conference (ISC), Workshop on Statistical Challenges in E-Commerce Research (SCECR), and Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) Fall Research Conference. In addition, his work and profile got mentioned in various media outlets and university magazines, like Phys.org, Forensicmag.com, HBS Working Knowledge, NYU Stern News, UMN News, Simon Business Magazine, and ISB Canvas.
Probal completed his Bachelors in Economics (with Honors) from Bidhannagar College, University of Calcutta in 2008, and Masters in Quantitative Economics (MSQE) from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata in 2010. In 2018, He received his doctoral degree in Business Administration (Information Systems track) from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
