Research Summary
My research has explored the development experience of Rwanda, in particular reference to exploring elite politics, the use of party-owned enterprises and the historical trajectory of state-business and capital-labour relationships in three traditional export sectors: coffee, tea and mining. I have also worked on other sectors including tourism, finance and pyrethrum. I am particularly interested in the politics of industrial policy, specifically exploring the strategies pursued by national firms to integrate into global production networks. I am in the process of develop a similar study in Ethiopia and will also continue to explore smaller research projects on the politics of industrial policy in other African countries.
