Biography

Alliance Manchester Business School

I joined Sociology and the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives at the University of Manchester in 2009. I had previously completed undergradutate and postgraduate studies in Sociology and Gender Studies at Lund University, Sweden, and then a Masters in Women's Studies (Social Research) and a PhD at the Centre for Women's Studies, University of York, 2005-2009.

My research explores how new reproductive technologies, and specifically the use of donor egg, sperm or embryos in assisted reproduction, impact on family and personal life. For my PhD, I explored lesbian couples' experiences of becoming and being parents using donor insemination. I then went on to study how donor conception impacts on relationships wihtin the wider family in the context of the ERSC funded study 'Relative Strangers: Negotiating Non-genetic Kinship in the Context of Assisted Conception' with Prof Carol Smart (PI) 2010-2013. Since 2017, I'm involved (as PI) in the ESRC funded project 'Curious Connections: The Impact of Donating Egg and Sperm on Donors' Everyday Life and Relationships', exploring the impact of donating egg of sperm on donors in a UK context.
