Owen Graduate School of Management

Professor Peter Haslag joined Owen after completing his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on frictions in capital markets and how they affect participants’ behaviors.

Awards & Accomplishments

While earning his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, Professor Haslag was named a Moog Scholar, awarded to the top PhD students in the Olin Business School, and earned the  Best PhD Job Market Presentation, awarded for the best presentation within Olin. At Arizona State, he earned the McQuaid Graduate Fellowship, a merit-based fellowship awarded to a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity for the purpose of pursuing a graduate degree.

Teaching

Professor Haslag will be teaching Managerial Finance at Vanderbilt. Previously he taught Managerial Statistics and Capital Markets at Washington University in St. Louis.

On A Personal Note...

Professor Haslag enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and playing basketball.

Research Interests

Professor Haslag’s research spans empirical asset pricing, market microstructure, and corporate finance. Notably his research has documented how competition amongst exchanges has improved market quality for the average firms, yet actually harms liquidity and price efficiency for thinly traded equities. Moreover, Professor Haslag’s research documents how equity financing flexibility balances investment needs, governance concerns, and takeover defense mechanisms.
