Biography

Dr. Peter Goh is currently Professor of Surgery at Monash University, Sunway Campus.

Dr. Goh was President Scholar in 1975 and graduated top of his medical class in the University of Singapore in 1980. He did his surgical residency at the Singapore General Hospital and became Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1984. He obtained his Masters degree in Surgery in 1985. He then did his higher surgical training at the Massachussetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.

In 1988 he returned to Singapore and become Senior Lecturer then Consultant in Surgery at the National University of Singapore. He became Chairman of the Minimally Invasive Surgical Centre in 1991. In 1993 he was appointed Associate Professor of Surgery and Senior Consultant in 1995. At this time he was also the director of the NUH Endoscopy Centre.

In 1991 he founded the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA)and also became one of the founding Governors of the International Federation of Societies of Endoscopic Surgeons (IFSES). Dr. Goh organized and was President of the World Congress of Endoscopic Surgeons in 2000 in Singapore.

In 2001 he became Gast Professor in the University of Cologne, Germany. Dr. Goh returned to Singapore in 2005 and worked 2 years as a consultant surgeon in Raffles Hospital before starting his own medical group. Dr. Goh is today the owner of Advance Surgical Group Pte Ltd. in Singapore.

In 2011 he was appointed as Professor of Surgery at Monash University.

He is well known internationally for his contribution to Therapeutic GI Endoscopy, Laparoscopic Surgery and Robotic Surgery. His special interests are in Gastric, Colorectal and Esophageal Cancer, weight loss surgery, sweating disorders and Haemorrhoids.

He has more than 150 scientific publications and 25 chapters in Surgical Textbooks. He has also won many international awards for teaching and research and operated in 22 countries.
