I am Assistant Professor at the Center for People and Organization, Stockholm School of Economics. My research interests focus on assessment of competence, diversity in organizations, and HRM.

I received my PhD from SSE in 2002. In my dissertation I use ethnomethodology and discourse analysis to understand how assessment and decision making in the selection process takes place. The studies presented in the dissertation comprise interviews with selectors and observation of meetings that were held by selectors following employment interviews in order to decide whether the candidates were to be offered employment. On the basis of this material I discuss how selectors produce factual versions of candidates, and how they reach and justify selection decisions.

I am currently interested in the concept of “strategic HRM”, which increasingly has become part of HR professionals’ standard vocabulary. Although there are plenty of theoretical definitions of strategic HRM, there are reasons to investigate how the label is used in practice and what the effects of this usage are.

I have taught courses in Human Resource Management and Organization & Management and held lectures in recruitment & selection and qualitative method, mainly at SSE and SSE Riga.
