Overview
I am a Lecturer in Philosophy (fixed term) here at Manchester.
I specialise in ethics broadly conceived to include themes in the history of ethics (I particularly like Aristotle, Spinoza, Hegel and Kant), the intersection of ethics and philosophy of mind (moral psychology, motivation, practical rationality and the emotions) and issues related to human evil and the ethics of forgiveness.
My current research develops a Kantian approach to forgiveness, exploring the relationship between forgiveness, moral development, memory, justice and self-respect.
I love teaching philosophy. I have lectured on a wide variety of topics as a result of my diverse research interests which cover both the continental and analytic traditions. I have lectured in ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, philosophical methods and philosophy of mind, and tutored in many other areas.
I love Spinoza but believe I ought to be a Kantian.
I am also a mum of two very active and energetic young boys.
Biography
I studied philosophy at The University of Buenos Aires where I graduated with a thesis on Aristotle’s Eudemian Ethics under the supervision of Osvaldo Guariglia. An Overseas Research Scholarship enabled me to study for a PhD at The University of Manchester. My PhD thesis was entitled Kant’s Theory of Motivation and Rational Agency and was supervised by Harry Lesser, Anthony Hatzimoysis and Graham Stevens. Before arriving to Manchester in 2016, I lectured at the University of Durham (2014-16), Keele University (2013-14), the Open University (2010-14) and Bolton University (2006-08).
