Biography

Paula is Professor of Organisations and Society and Director of the Health Services Research Centre at Alliance Manchester Business School. She holds visiting positions at Macquarie University, New South Wales, Australia and Durham University, England. Previously she taught at the Universities of Durham, Manchester and Salford and held a visiting position at the Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales.

Her research and teaching interests lie in organising care, sociology of work and critical and psychodynamic explorations of how care is organised. She is an executive committee member of the Learned Society for the Study of Organising in Health Care (SHOC) in the Academy of Social Sciences.

She has published several books and refereed articles in journals such as British Journal of Management, Human Relations, Journal of Management Studies and Organization Studies. Before commencing an academic career she worked as an occupational therapist in mental health services.
