Biography

My research has broadly examined how Chinese management has evolved as China's economy develops. Where traditional Chinese management methods have been a good fit for firms engaged in low cost mass production, these traditional management methods appear incompatible with an increasing need to manage professionals and knowledge workers. Specific research topics I have published which are related to this broad issue include creativity, teams, conflict, and empowerment.

In recent years, I have devoted significant attention to managerial education. I have developed the highly successful MSc in Organizational Management, which prepares our graduates for careers as mananagement consultants. A key feature of the program is the Organizational Cunsulting Project, where student teams work on actual consulting projects for a variety of MNC, SME, and NGO clients.
