Paul Burke is an economist focusing on energy, the environment, transport, and developing countries, particularly in the Asia Pacific.

Paul has published in journals including American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Economic Inquiry, Nature Geoscience, Nature Climate Change, and Global Environmental Change. His ongoing research includes policies for zero-carbon energy in the Asia-Pacific; Australia’s energy transition; road safety; China’s coal demand; and other topics. His publications are listed here.

Paul is co-leading a research module of the Australian-German Energy Transition Hub. He convenes the Crawford PhD Seminars in Economics, is on the Executive Committee for the Australasian Development Economics Workshop, and is ACT Branch President of AARES.

In 2018 Paul is teaching IDEC8029 Issues in Applied Microeconomics. He has been a panel member for 12 completed PhD students. He also delivers executive training in Environmental Economics for Non-Economists.

Paul has been awarded an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award, 2016–2018. He received the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific Award for Teaching Excellence in 2013.
