Biography

Patrick Bergemann is an Assistant Professor of Organization and Management at the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine. He studies the ways in which institutions interact with informal networks to influence behavior in unexpected ways. In particular, he examines the incidence of wrongdoing within organizations and polities, and what leads individuals to report such behavior to the authorities.
His research has been published in the American Journal of Sociology and the American Sociological Review. His book, Judge Thy Neighbor: Denunciations in the Spanish Inquisition, Romanov Russia, and Nazi Germany, was recently published by Columbia University Press.
Prior to joining UC-Irvine, Patrick was an Assistant Professor at the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. He received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University.
