Patricia Palmer

Patricia Palmer is an artist and arts educator based in Cambridge, MA. She works out of her studio at Miller Street Studios in Somerville.

Throughout her career, Patricia has continuously balanced her studio practice with her commitment as an arts educator. Her mixed media works focus on the body and mind, and the rhythms and patterns that lead to awareness of their connection. Drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures explore a personal vocabulary of abstract imagery related to themes of relationship, observation, communication, and systems. In her work as an educator, Patricia is interested in environments and instructional approaches that help people learn how to think, especially in and through the visual arts. Patricia is a former teacher and spent twelve years as a researcher at Project Zero, a research organization at Harvard Graduate School of Education dedicated to understanding and enhancing learning, thinking, and creativity in the arts, as well as other disciplines. Patricia’s work there focused on deepening understanding of the arts and developing programs for schools, art museums, and communities. Currently, Patricia is the Director of Art Education at Montserrat College of Art. She also mentors student art teachers at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She is a proud mama to a teenager who is also an artist.

Patricia received her BA in art history and anthropology from Fordham University and Ed.M. in arts education from Harvard University. She earned her teaching certification from Bank Street and Parsons School of Design/The New School and studied fine arts at the School of Visual Arts, MassArt and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
