Bio

Judge Patti Mitchell is a member of the Montgomery County, Maryland bench. She is an AU alumna (SPA ’76) and has been an adjunct JLC professor for over ten years. In her more than thirteen years as a sitting judge, Judge Mitchell has heard criminal, civil, traffic, domestic violence, and juvenile matters. A Washington native, she was a practicing attorney in private and public service for 16 years prior to her judicial appointment. In adivition to teaching AU students, Judge Mitchell instructs other judges, court employees, and newly admitted attorneys. Formerly, Judge Mitchell also served as a member of the Maryland Board of Law Examiners. Students enjoy Judge Mitchell’s informal, approachable manner and her use of guest speakers and media in the class.
