Biography

Patricia Bader-Johnston is a serial entrepreneur and Angel investor. Her ventures encompass a range of industries that fall under the “Sustainability” umbrella. Silverbirch Associates KK is a boutique business consulting firm with an investment focus on Food, Water and Energy . Other ventures include a clean tech company (eSurface KK), a healthcare company (innHealth KK) and a social enterprise (5ive-Planets ISH). She is an active social entrepreneur with current projects in Japan, Mongolia and the Philippines and is currently serves as Senior Consultant to Invest Northern Ireland in Japan, with a focus on supporting fintech, cybersecurity and blockchain initiatives.

5ive-Planets ISH, founded in 2010; supports innovation, technology and entrepreneurship and is the Creative Business Network Partne among other projects.

Patricia is currently a Director on the Boards of: Alliances for Discovery (501c), Neurogenics Ltd., IaDR Alliance (NPO), The OMEGA Global Initiative, Runway for Hope (NPO) and on the Advisory Board of Ecoloblue (an atmospheric water company). She also has served as a Trustee (Yokohama) for Hope International Development Agency.

Prior to founding her own ventures Patricia held a number of senior corporate roles in Fortune 100’s spanning 30 years based in Japan, including:

  • Member of the Board and Director of Communications for IBM Japan
  • Vice-President Operations Finance and Resources for Goldman Sachs Japan
  • Director of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at British American Tobacco Japan
  • Director of Corporate Affairs for Standard Chartered Bank (Japan, Australia Taiwan)

Before entering the private sector she served in the public sector for 10 years as a senior locally engaged programme officer in Public Affairs for the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, and Yokohama City government.

Patricia has served as an advisor to many organizations including: Tokyo Business Development Center and EGG Japan, Asia Development Bank/ADBI/World Bank; Government of Quebec, NASA OMEGA Project, Impact International (UK), UVLrx Blood Labs, TBWA\Hakuhodo, Mitsubishi Estate Ltd., Ernst & Young, United Nations University, Syntaq Global Inc., Invest Northern Ireland, the US State Department, Howard Lamar Fine Arts, CPRSX Inc., KL Amazing Ltd, among others.

She is a Faculty Advisor to the London Business School, Professor of Globalization and Business Studies (MBA) at the Kenichi Ohmae Graduate School, and Associate Professor (Sustainability Studies) at Rikkyo University (Master of International Business) as well as the Founding Chair of the Entrepreneur Mentoring Initiative and The Entrepreneur Awards Japan, and a founding member of the Global Executive for Katerva Awards for Innovation in Sustainability.

Patricia is the only female (past) President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan; twice Leader of the Year for the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, an active TED Associate, TEDx curator (TEDxTokyo, TEDxGreatWall, TEDxAoyamawomen,TEDxMarunouchiwomen, TEDxJanpath(New Dehli), and a global Ambassador for UnitedSucces. She was recently appointed to the Sustainability Working Group of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics Organizing Committee.

She holds an MBA in International Business from McGill University Canada, and has raised four children in Japan with her husband Brad Johnston.
