Pascal Noel

Pascal Noel is the Neubauer Family Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is also a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research interests include household finance, public finance, macroeconomics, real estate, and behavioral economics. His current research uses administrative consumer financial data to explore the drivers of household consumption and default decisions and their macroeconomic implications. He is particularly interested in how households respond to financial distress, inequality in financial distress, and the role of public policies in alleviating distress.

His research was awarded the AQR Top Finance Graduate Award and the David A. Wells Prize for best economics dissertation at Harvard, and it has been covered by media outlets such as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Bloomberg, and NPR.

He earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics, and a B.A. in Economics and in Ethics, Politics, and Economics (summa cum laude) from Yale College. From 2009 to 2011, he worked as a senior policy advisor at the White House National Economic Council focusing on housing and financial markets. He joined the Chicago Booth faculty in 2017.
