Biography

Bristol Business School

Teaching: I attempt to create a space in which students can question taken-for-granted assumptions of ideas to better understand practices and to voice their views so that they can engage in creating interventions. Interested in hands-on ways of learning, I invite practitioners in to facilitate workshops to share their stories and experiences.

Research: Taking an inter-disciplinary approach, my research is experimental bringing together critical thinking between entrepreneurship, organisation and society to re-imagine how approaches to enterprise and social enterprise can be different.

My PhD thesis was of narrative and actions between social enterprise practitioners (negotiations between those in existing organisations in the third sector and those acting in local and regional government). My current work is bringing together those in organisations, Arts organisers and academics around the question of How to reframe individual heroic stories of social enterprise?

I also co-led a collaborative research project "Wandering about Bristol" which was supported by a Small Research Grant from the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust. To capture movement, and moving images, we used film with participants recording their conversations whilst walking around Bristol of what becoming a "green" city meant to them in their practices.

My interest and curiosity in everyday practices and how a practice-based approach can be critical remains central to the above teaching and research practices.
