Biography

An ordained Baptist minister and educator who has served in Memphis. TN, Cambridge, MA, Brooklyn, NY and Baltimore, MD., Odis Braxton, Jr. is currently the Pastor of City of Hope Baptist Church In Baltimore, MD. In addition, he is an adjunct professor at Loyola University, teaching introductory courses in Religion.

Odis has labored tirelessly in preaching, teaching, and designing curricula stressing the cognitive, social and ethical agency of historically oppressed peoples, and, as an activist, he has organized seminars and symposiums that provided dialogue toward change between religious/academic institutions and their proximate underprivileged communities.

As a scholar, Odis is interested in religious ethics and he explores critical understandings of the wider social scientific and historical approaches to the study of religion in general, and the Black Church in particular.
