Nomi C. Levy-Carrick, MD, MPhil is a consultation-liaison psychiatrist who serves as Associate Vice Chair, Ambulatory Services, Department of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. She serves as co-chair of the MassGeneralBrigham Trauma Informed Care Initiative and as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar (2018-2020), working with an interdisciplinary team on developing trauma-informed care approaches to the emergency department setting. She is the psychiatric consultant to the Critical Illness Recovery Program within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, BWH.
Dr. Levy-Carrick was embedded within one of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) medical intensive care units, a unique model in the US healthcare system (2017-2019), serving concurrently as the Division of Medical Psychiatry’s Liaison to the BWH Hospital Burn Program in the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care service, extending the proactive psychiatric consultation model in this setting as well. She joined the BWH team in Boston following a 12-month posting in Kigali, Rwanda, serving as Associate to Head of Department of Psychiatry, University of Rwanda, under the Human Resources for Health program of the Rwandan Ministry of Health. She previously served as Mental Health Director of the World Trade Center Environmental Health Center in NYC (2011-2015).
Dr. Levy-Carrick’s current clinical and research efforts focus on trauma and resilience, particularly as they manifest in medical settings. This work includes seeking sources of prophylactic interventions to support resilience through trauma-informed inquiry, evaluation and treatment approaches that support health equity initiatives to optimize individuals’ long-term functional outcomes across the lifespan.
