Njoki Mwarumba Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness at the University of Nebraska Omaha.Dr. Mwarumbas scholarship, pedagogy, research, volunteerism and community engagement lies at the intersection of global public health disasters, social vulnerability, and asset based approaches towards enhancing resilience and advocating for disaster justice. Public health disasters - Perceptions and sense making of public health disasters such as pandemics and infectious diseases.Social vulnerability - Factors that generate and contribute to vulnerability among underserved people groups, minorities, indigenous populations, marginalized communities, Low and Middle Income countries. Asset based approaches - how non-dominant and under-studied communities apply their culture, philosophies, skills and spirituality to inform disaster perspectives.
