Biography

Fordham University

On February 15, 2019, Nicholas Tampio became Full Professor of Political Science at Fordham University. Tampio researches the history of political thought, contemporary political theory, and education policy. His first book, Kantian Courage, considers how Anglo-American, Continental, and Islamic political theorists renovate Kant's critical philosophy. Tampio's second book, Deleuze's Political Vision, explains why A Thousand Plateaus ought to enter the political theory canon. His third book is Common Core: National Education Standards and the Threat to Democracy, and his fourth book, Learning versus the Common Core, collects many of his education articles that he has published in Aeon, CNN, the Conversation, US News & World Report, and other outlets. Tampio serves as the political theory editor of editor of Politics & Religion and as the faculty mentor of the Fordham Political Review and the department's Pi Sigma Alpha chapter. His work has been translated into Albanian, Chinese, Croatian, French, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
