Brookings Institution
Milena Nikolova is an Associate Professor and a Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen and serves as an Editor of the Journal of Population Economics. She is also the Section Editor for the “Welfare, Well-being, Happiness” Section of the Handbook of Labor, Human Resources and Population Economics.
She is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), a Nonresident Fellow at the Brookings Institution and Bruegel, and a Fellow at GLO. Nikolova has work experience in think tanks, such as the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution.
She is passionate about research related to the economics of happiness and transition economies.
First, she researches topics related to the (subjective) well-being effects of technological change, migration, and entrepreneurship. Second, she investigates the historical and contemporary determinants of socio-economic developments in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
Milena holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park (2014).
