Mike Strivens

Biography

Mike Strivens joined the Accounting and Finance (A&F) Division of Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester as a Senior Fellow in 2006 and is responsible for the management and development of A&F''s research-led executive teaching commitments within the Business School.

Mike''s PhD examined the influence that institutional investors with large block holdings have over corporate governance of UK firms, focusing on executive remuneration and CEO turnover particularly in response to poor firm performance. He also has an MSc in Finance from Manchester and an International MBA from ESCP, Paris; University of Economics, Prague and Manchester. His area of academic expertise is in corporate governance, financial reporting and accountability and corporate finance.

Prior to joining Manchester Business School, Mike spent over 20 years in management consultancy, the last 14 of which were at Arthur Andersen Business Consulting where he worked on a wide range of assignments. Mike has extensive commercial experience of business strategy development, risk management, change management and project managing the implementation of complex financial and management information systems in a wide range of commercial and public sector organisations.

Mike teaches MBS undergraduates and postgraduates management accounting, accounting theory, financial reporting and corporate finance. He has run workshops on financial statement analysis, management accounting, firm valuation, finance theory and use of statistical software (SAS and STATA) to provide statistical and econometric analysis. Mike has also taught corporate finance on a number of executive education courses for several FTSE 100 companies.
