Biography
Miguel A. Valdes is an instructor for the School of Accountancy & MIS at DePaul University with over 40 years of experience. He is an internationally recognized specialist in U.S. tax planning and controversy, particularly with respect to Latin American and Caribbean tax matters.
Valdes is currently a partner at Saint Joseph International. Prior to joining the company, he was most recently with Andersen Tax in New York. Prior to that role, Valdes was with Brazilian law firm Koury Lopes Advogados. He also served as a U.S. resident partner for Machado Associados Advogados e Consultores from 2002 to 2012. In addition, he was a partner at Ernst & Young between 1994 and 2002 where he headed their Latin American Business Center.
Valdes is affiliated with the Illinois CPA Society, the American Institute of CPAs, the American Bar Association and the Florida Bar Association. He is also on the Advisory Board of the Latin American Law & Business Report, which is published by Thomson Reuters.
