Biography

Michele Tantardini earned an undergraduate and master degree in economics and management of public administration at Bocconi University (Milan, Italy). His academic career has been focused on the management of public sector institutions and organizations, and the delivery of public services. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration at the School of Public Affairs at Penn State Harrisburg. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Affairs at Florida International University (Miami, FL) with a dissertation on the relationship between performance information use and organizational social capital. His professional experience started by working for the Treasury Department of the Italian Republic (Rome, Italy). He then started working as a young researcher both at the Scuola di Direzione Aziendale Bocconi School of Management and Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

Dr. Michele Tantardini has spent time conducting research for four academic articles, all of which are currently undergoing review and focus on the following topics: financial management ethics of local governments; community social capital and financial performance of county governments; public service motivation and financial management in local governments; and how to motivate and retain public employees in federal government. Most recently, he moderated a panel at the Northeast Conference on Public Administration (NECoPA) titled, “Hungry for Success: Motivation in the Public Service,” during which he also presented his paper, “Intrinsic Motivation and Job Satisfaction in the Public Sector: The Role of Organizational Social Capital.” NECoPA was hosted by Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs in collaboration with the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of ASPA in November 2016.

Dr. Tantardini has worked with Dr. Patria Julnes, Director of Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs, on a pre-election poll of Pennsylvanians’ perceptions of state and federal government performance. The two discussed the pre-election poll results on WITF, the public radio station of Central Pennsylvania in November 2016.
