Fellow of the British Academy and Academic Governor of the LSE. Educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford; Girton College Cambridge; and LSE. Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW); Associate member of the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation; and Honorary Fellow of the Institute for Risk Management (IRM). Has held visiting fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study, Berlin and at All Souls College, Oxford. Honorary Doctorate in Economics, University of St Gallen, Switzerland, 2009; Honorary Doctorate in Social Science, University of Uppsala, Sweden, 2013; Honorary Doctor of Economics, Turku University, 2016. Former Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Regulation (CARR) at LSE and holder of a number of advisory and external non-executive roles in the financial services sector.

Research & Teaching Interests

Mr. Power is a practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in supply chain management, transportation, logistics, international business, as well as marketing and sales. With his extensive business experience, Mr. Power teaches in a variety of areas, including supply chain management, global logistics, transportation and distribution management, international business, business ethics, business policy & strategy, and introduction to business.

Industry & Academic Experience

Prior to joining the College of Business Administration faculty in 1998, Mr. Power worked for United Parcel Service (UPS); his last position was as a National Account Executive, where he was assigned a targeted group of multinational companies. His duties included coordinating and executing all business development efforts and negotiations. Mr. Power also held the position of Center Reassessment Project Leader. He was tasked with reassessing and redesigning the role, structure, staffing, and key processes of the individual business units. He and his group developed organizational structure and development guidelines for self-directed work teams, defining new measurements for monitoring performance. Mr. Power worked as a Customer Service Telephone Center Director, managing a workforce of telephone representatives; his duties included employment, training, and scheduling. The center was ranked #1 in the country for answered speed of call and quality performance. As a management person in Operations, he maintained a processing rate of 38,000 packages per hour, accentuating safety, methods, and efficiency. Mr. Power managed a workforce of both employees and supervisors, in charge of inbound loads and scheduling. He directed a committee on safe workdays and maintained an efficiency rating of 98%. He also worked as a District Sales Coordinator, ranking #1 in the $1 Million Sales Contest in the Northeast Region. He directed presentations and steered a sales/marketing/customer service collection of people. His first position in management was District Account Executive. He ranked #1 in volume and revenue growth for 1992, with a growth of 42%. He was recognized for development of a $1 million national account and honored as "Executive of the Month" on several occasions. Mr. Power''s first position was a Service Provider (Driver) and received the "Driver of the Month" Award. Prior to UPS, Mr. Power was a District Sales Manager for Automatic Data Processing, a multinational provider of payroll services. He was awarded Salesperson of the Year in 1989. Mr. Power also worked as a Senior Financial Analyst for the First Winthrop Company and as a Master Trust Accountant for The Boston Company in Boston, MA.
