Biography

IMD Business School

Michael is a second-act entrepreneur with a deep love of applied neuroscience, behavioural economics, and longevity. Before founding Extend My Runway Pte Ltd, Michael built a 25-year scholarly career in executive development that continues today (part-time) as an executive facilitator and coach with IMD Business School (ranked top five for 15 consecutive years).

Since moving to Asia in 2002 to help build Singapore Management University, Michael has facilitated sessions for more than 12,000 executives. Clients have included Merck KGaA, BNP Paribas, Credit Swiss, Swiss Re, UBS, Julius Baer, Bank Mandiri, Singapore Airlines, IBM, Unilever, Gucci, and Infineon Technologies to name a few. Michael has also written several professional guides, and coded interactive learning tools, discussing business communication.

Michael’s work has been featured in the New York Times and MIT Technology Review, and in 2011 he received the Champion’s Award from the Central and Eastern European Management Association for innovative teaching design. More recently, he received the Best Case award from EFMD in Entrepreneurship and was featured as a 2021 Entrepreneur of the year in APAC Entrepreneur.

Michael earned his full-time doctorate from the University of Minnesota and his life’s journey has taken him to Argentina, Finland, Germany, Japan, Slovenia, and now Singapore. He has lived in Singapore since 2002 (permanent resident), is the father of five children, and is currently studying for a second master’s degree in applied neuroscience at King’s College London. In his spare time, Michael enjoys reading about ancient Greek and Roman history and is launching a charity run to raise money for brain research and hospice care.
