Michael Montesano is Coordinator of the Thailand and Myanmar Studies Programmes at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. He is co-editor of After the Coup: The National Council for Peace and Order Era and the Future of Thailand (2019) and of Praetorians, Profiteers or Professionals? Studies on the Militaries of Myanmar and Thailand (2020). Michael served as a United States Peace Corps volunteer in Phang Nga Province, South Thailand (1983-1985) and has been a visiting researcher at Thammasat, Chulalongkorn, and Walailak Universities. He was educated at Yale, the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, and Cornell.
