Bio
Michael Mandel spent most of his professional career working in the non-profit sector as both a paid staff member and a consultant before entering academia. As a paid employee, he has served as Development Director of the Community Food Bank (a senior management role), Director of Housing Services for the Primavera Foundation, Vice President of External Affairs for Planned Parenthood of Southern Arizona (a senior management role), and Communications Director of the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault. Michael launched a consulting practice, Mandel Management Solutions, in 2005. A Tucson resident since 2002, Michael was named one of the first (and youngest) Tucson “40 Under 40” young professional leaders in 2005 and has since won several other local awards for community service and advocacy. As a volunteer on local boards of directors, he has served as chair of the Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission and as vice president of SAMHC (Southern Arizona Mental Health Corporation, then Pasadera Behavioral Health Services). Michael transitioned to teaching at the collegiate level in 2013 after completing his MBA with a 4.0 GPA the previous year. As an instructor, Michael''s teaching philosophy has three basic tenets: The content he teaches must have immediate practical application The ways he teaches must meet his students where they are The end result of how he teaches must foster his students'' critical thinking skills To learn more about Michael''s teaching philosophy and how he incorporates technology into his teaching, visit his Better Learning Through Technology website at http://betterlearning.tech.
