Biography

Michael has been named Research Affiliate Faculty of George Mason University's Department of Computer Science working with the research group of Professor Duminda Wijesekera in the Center for Assurance Research and Engineering (CARE). His general research interests are in the area of information security and digital forensics as well as their impact on society. In particular, Michael is interested in dark web forensics, quantification and management of trustworthiness, remote voting technologies, and security policy.

He holds an MS in Information Security and Assurance from George Mason University, an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Ulm, and a B.Sc. in Corporate and Information Systems Security from Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, both Germany.

Michael has been awarded Fellowships of the Fulbright Program, the German National Academic Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He furthermore is recipient of the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award of George Mason University's Department of Computer Science.

Having worked as an Incident Responder in IBM Security's X-Force Incident Response & Intelligence Services (IRIS) team, he is now a security researcher with the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security AISEC and a doctoral candidate at Technical University of Munich's Chair for IT Security.
