Background
Michael R. Galbreth (Ph.D., Vanderbilt University, 2006) is a Professor of Management Science and a Business Partnership Foundation Moore Research Fellow. He also serves as the Academic Director for the Moore School’s Center for Applied Business Analytics. Prior to returning to academia, Galbreth was a manager at KPMG Consulting. He has taught in the undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. programs at the Moore School on topics including operations management, information systems, quantitative methods, and sustainable operations. He has also taught MBA courses at Vanderbilt University, Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), and Chonnam National University (South Korea). At the Moore School, Galbreth is a seven-time winner of the IMBA outstanding professor award as well as the recipient of the Alfred G. Smith Award for Teaching Excellence in 2010. In 2013 he was runner-up for the Wickham Skinner Teaching Achievements Award from the Production & Operations Management Society, which recognizes pedagogical excellence from among all operations management professors globally.
Galbreth’s research activities are currently focused on retail operations, consumer returns, sustainable operations, and the interface between marketing and operations. In 2010 he was named a Fulbright Scholar and served as the Fulbright Enders Visiting Research Chair at McGill University in Montreal. In 2013 he was one of 15 faculty from across all USC colleges and departments to be recognized by the USC Office of Research as a Breakthrough Star researcher. In 2014 he received the Paul Kleindorfer Award in Sustainability from the Production & Operations Management Society. This award is presented annually to recognize innovative and impactful research in the field of sustainable operations.
Galbreth is a Senior Edito_r_ for Production and Operations Management and an Associate Editor for Decision Sciences and Journal of Operations Management _._ His research has appeared in Management Science, Marketing Science, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Interfaces, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Business Logistics_ ,_ Decision Sciences, Journal of Management Information Systems, and others. Galbreth has consulted with a variety of companies, with a focus on building analytical decision models and developing analytics training materials and programs.
