Evans School of Public Policy and Governance

Michael Blake joined the Evans School faculty in 2005. His research and teaching interests include: social and political philosophy, international development, philosophy of law and of economics, and the philosophy of public policy.

Blake was previously a faculty member at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government where he served as assistant professor of Public Policy and Philosophy, and held positions in the Center for Ethics and the Professions and the Carr Center for Human Rights. Blake was a Laurance S. Rockefeller Fellow at Princeton University's Center for Human Values from 2001-02.

He is the author of Justice and Foreign Policy (Oxford University Press, 2013) and Debating Brain Drain: May Governments Restrict Emigration? (Oxford University Press, 2014, with Gillian Brock). He is currently writing a book on the morality of migration policy, which is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Blake holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Stanford University, and a BA in Economics and Philosophy from University College, University of Toronto. He did his legal training at Yale Law School. His primary appointment is in the University of Washington's Department of Philosophy.
