Cockrell School of Engineering

Michael is a practitioner, teacher, and thought leader in applying Toyota Production System (i.e., Lean) principles in healthcare. Michael serves as Vice President of Baylor Scott & White's Operations Excellence team. He has led the Continuous Improvement efforts for five years at this progressing organization, receiving national recognition for their transformation thus far. Michael is an integral part in the deployment of a holistic lean approach, including system-wide training, projects (A3, VSM, Lean Layout, and Kaizen), Hoshin Planning, foundational and advanced tools, and an extensive deployment and maturation of Lean Management Systems (leader standard work, gemba walks, and huddle boards). Beyond his specialization in tool deployment, Michael is a coaching leader for creating a culture of continuous improvement through the Lean Management System.

Prior to Baylor Scott & White, Michael spent over 17 years in manufacturing and assembly in the semiconductor industry where he successfully transformed assembly lines within the company. He developed many supplier partners in machining, sheet metal and assembly throughout the world using Lean principals to result in millions of dollars in savings and reduction of cycle times.
