Biography

Harvard Medical School

I approach headache treatment by focusing on the whole person. A person may have various potential headache triggers, so I don’t limit my assessment to any one part of the body. When a person first comes to my office, I conduct a comprehensive consultation.

I treat a wide variety of conditions, including migraines, tension-type headaches, cluster headaches, and postconcussive and postsurgical headaches. Treatment may include the use of medications or nonpharmacologic therapies. The latter may include cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, relaxation, sleep assessments, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction assessments.

My research interests revolve around improving the diagnosis and treatment of people with migraines by doctors in various medical specialties, from emergency medicine to primary care, psychiatry, and other specialty areas. I am also interested in headaches that are associated with behavioral and psychiatric problems, and in headache education.

I have published numerous research articles and lectured at annual meetings, including those of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Headache Society. I serve on the editorial board of the journal Headache.

I have been recognized locally and nationally as a mentor, and received the first S. Jay Levy Distinguished Internship Site Award from the City College of New York. I am also a two-time recipient of the American Academy of Neurology’s Neuroscience Is Rewarding grant.
