Biography

Professor Feldberg served as Dean of Columbia Business School for 15 years from 1989 to 2004. He is currently on leave of absence serving as a Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley. He has been a visiting professor at the Cranfield School of Management in England, the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at INSEAD in France. After graduating from Columbia, Professor Feldberg was employed by B. F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio. In 1972, he was appointed dean of the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business. In 1979, he became director of executive education and associate dean at Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. In September 1981, he was appointed dean of Tulane University's School of Business, and in 1986 he became president of the Illinois Institute of Technology. From 1989 to 2004, Professor Feldberg served as dean of Columbia Business School. In May, 2007, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg appointed Professor Feldberg President of New York City Global Partners.
Professor Feldberg is a director of several major public companies, including: Macy*s Inc., the largest department store group in the nation, with sales approaching $30 billion. Macy*s owns Bloomingdale's and Macy's. He serves on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and is Vice-Chairman of the Compensation and Management Development Committee. Revlon, Inc. , one of the world's best known names in cosmetics. He serves on the Audit Committee and is Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. PRIMEDIA Inc., a leading media company. He serves on the Audit Committee and on the Corporate Governance Committee. UBS Global Asset Management (38 Investment Companies). Assets of UBS Funds exceed $70 billion. He serves as Chairman of the UBS Alternative Investment Group. Sappi Limited. Sappi is the world’s leading producer of coated fine paper. It holds major market shares in Europe, North America, and Africa. He is Chairman of the Nomination and Governance Committee and serves on the Compensation Committee.
Professor Feldberg serves on the Board of Directors of the New York City Ballet, one of the world’s premier ballet companies. Professor Feldberg has served on the Advisory Board of the British American Business Council, the Board of Governors of the International Institute of Education, the Advisory Committee for the American Council on Education, the Council on Competitiveness in Washington, D.C., and the Advisory Board of the Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse. Professor Feldberg is a member of the Economic Club of New York and the University Club of New York. He is the author of books and articles, including Organizational Behavior: Text and Cases (Juta 1975). A keen athlete, Professor Feldberg participated in numerous international swimming meets in the late 1950s and 1960s. In 2001, The International Center in New York honored Professor Feldberg as a distinguished foreign born individual who has made a significant contribution to American life. Professor Feldberg is married to Barbara Feldberg, an artist who works and exhibits in New York. They have two children and six grandchildren.
