Marty Broadwell is director of Contract Management Support at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), responsible for managing and improving sponsor interaction and contracting vehicles and processes, while ensuring compliance with all FARs, Export Control, Organizational Conflict of Interest, and other policies and regulations. He is also an instructor in GTRI’s Professional Masters in Applied Systems Engineering (PMASE), Systems Engineering short courses, and GTRI’s Project Director Certificate courses. From 2011 to 2014 He managed GTRI’s strategic planning and a portfolio of programs performed for the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF), representing over $70M in applied research.
Marty came to GTRI in 2010 from EMS Technologies, Inc. (now Honeywell). During his eight years at EMS he served as: VP of Business Development, VP of Programs, and acting GM for the Defense & Space division. EMS-Honeywell develops and manufactures highly-specialized RF components and subsystems for communication, radar, and electronic warfare systems for commercial, civil, military, and space applications.
Prior to joining EMS, from 1983 until 2002, Marty worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems. From 1999 to 2002, he was director of the C-5 Avionics Modernization Program, and from 1991 to 1999 served in various roles on the F-22 development program including: Director of F-22 Avionics ($4B+ segment of F-22 development program), Deputy Director of F-22 Avionics, Director of F-22 Mission software, and F-22 Avionics Software manager.
From 1986 to 1990, Marty was Lockheed’s program manager for the DARPA’s Pilot’s Associate program, aimed at applying Artificial Intelligence to assist pilots of tactical aircraft, which he led from initial competition through a three-year demo phase that culminated in a follow-on down-select award.
He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Physics from the University of South Florida.
Marty lives in Dunwoody, GA, and has four sons.
