Martin Spring

Martin Spring is Professor of Operations Management at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), UK. He is also LUMS Associate Dean for Engagement and Director of the School’s Centre for Productivity & Efficiency. His research is concerned with the intersection between innovation in products, services and technologies, and the processes and supply chains of which they are a part. His work on this theme has focussed on product customisation, supply chain flexibility, the links between public policy and innovation in supply networks, and innovation in business-to-business services. Recently, he has been researching the adoption of artificial intelligence in law and accountancy firms.

He is an AIM (Advanced Institute for Management Research) Services Fellow, Associate Editor of the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and of the Journal of Operations Management, and a former Associate Editor of the Journal of Supply Chain Management. He serves, or has served as: an ESRC CASE Studentship Panel Member (2005-2008), an ESRC Peer Review College member (2010-present), a Fellow of the British Academy of Management Peer Review College, a member of the Board of the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA), and Vice-President (Conferences) of the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM). He also chaired the 2021 British Academy of Management Conference, which was hosted by Lancaster University.
