Background

Mark Sullivan, an organizational psychologist, is an Ohio State University Fisher College of Business MBA and Executive MBA faculty member. Additionally, he coaches and consults executives and government leaders; and is a noted motivational speaker on personal leadership in highdemand environments.

Over the last 25 plus years, Mark has served in leadership and operating roles in five Global 1000/ Dow 30 companies. For Honeywell International, he founded and managed a Corporate Business Accelerator that grew into a $1B product portfolio. Additionally, he assisted in cocreating a midmarket line of business as an APEX Managing Partner, McKinsey & Company Alliance Partner; and an Accenture P&L executive, coleading the North American Human Capital Practice in the telecom industry. More recently, he was the Chief Talent Officer for Battelle, a $5B government contractor of classified and commercial technology.

Earlier in his career, Mark was based in Tokyo, Singapore and Chicago for United Airlines (UAL). He was UAL''s lead negotiator in the Pacific Rim for vendor contracts, trade and government agreements. Simultaneously, he oversaw UAL''s Executive Sales Institute worldwide; and was on the flight school faculty, FAA certified, for hostage negotiating and emergency services. Additionally, in the airline industry, he was notably recognized for coleading the emergency response for UA flight #232, crash landing in Sioux City, Iowa.                                                                                                                                                                

During this time, Mark was also briefly on special assignment with the U.S. State Department, to support Prime Minister Gorbachev''s political reformation efforts in the latter stages of Perestroika. Moscow and Leningradbased, he worked with a select team of Soviet Generals in developing practices in negotiating peace agreements with their regional neighbors.

Mark earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior at Case Western Reserve University (Weatherhead Mgmt. School); and his M.A. from Harvard University. He is a Kauffman Foundation Scholar; a Weatherhead Family Business Fellow; a PostDoctoral clinical resident from the Gestalt Institute; and visiting faculty at the Roman Catholic Pontifical College.

Presently he is working on the book, “THRIVE: When Trouble Visits! Being Your Best in Tough Times.” The 50 plus book interviews of CEO’s, Generals, health care executives, elite athletes, media and Hollywood celebrities and clergy focus on ways to turn tough times into better times.

On the personal front, as a former British Outward Bound Survival School Instructor and Eagle Scout, he enjoys outdoor pursuits: running, sailing and camping. He is married with three sons.

BUSMHR 3200 Managing Individuals in Organizations: Organizational Behavior and Human Resources

Principles for managing the performance of individuals and groups in organizations; introduction to organizational behavior theory and its application to staffing, training, compensation, and appraisal. Prereq: Econ 2001.01 (200) and 2002.01 (201), or equivalent. Not open to students with credit for 3100 (400) or 701. Not open to students enrolled in UUSS, UExp or PreBSBAPR.

BUSMHR 7260 Organizational Behavior for Specialized Masters

Introduction to topics in organizational behavior with a focus on applications for MBLE students. Prereq: Enrollment in MBLE, Specialized Masters in Logistics, or Specialized Masters in Marketing, or permission of instructor.

BUSMHR 7261 Leadership for Specialized Masters

Introduction to topics in leadership with a focus on applications for specialized business masters students. Prereq: Enrollment in MBLE, Specialized Masters in Logistics, or Specialized Masters in Marketing, or permission of instructor.

BUSMHR 7263 Leadership for SMB Finance Students

An overview of factors that influence individual work performance and techniques; analytical frameworks for determining effectiveness of given techniques in specific circumstances. Prereq: Enrollment in SMB Finance program, or permission of instructor. Not open to students with credit for MBA 860.

BUSMHR 7236 Crucial Conversations

Building skills for handling tough conversations; practical ways to manage disagreement and disappointment in a constructive manner. Provides method for straight talk that moves people and positions forward. Principles further build a capacity to hold people accountable while increasing commitment & performance. Drives impact and competitive advantage at the leader, team and organizational level.

BUSADM 3630.06 Business Industry Cluster

Exploration of current interdisciplinary best business practices in industry. Students will work across business specializations to learn strategy and implementation details from current industry professionals. Prereq: Admission to Business Industry Cluster Program, or permission of instructor.

BUSMHR 7629 Prof Business Communication Skills

The purpose of this course is to create and build a baseline of communication skills used in business and industry. In addition to foundation skills, the course focuses on key elements of style and "polishing up techniques" in the presentations arena. Prereq: MBA 6281.01.
