Mark Halko

Mark A. Halko, PhD, is a neuroscientist in the Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder Research Program at McLean Hospital. The goal of his research is to uncover how to close the gap between fundamental neuroscience and clinical treatments. His work focuses on what fundamental neuroscience reveals about brain organization and dynamics and how brain structure and function vary along a spectrum of illness and wellness.

Dr. Halko uses non-invasive brain stimulation to investigate optimal strategies to change brain function in order to create healthier brain states for individuals. This includes the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), as tools. This research requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes cognitive neuroscience, computational neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and clinical investigation.
