Professor DeAngelis represented clients in the civil justice systems of the state and Federal courts of Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire for 19 years. His great desire to contribute to the communities that nourished him brings Attorney DeAngelis back to UConn where he takes great pride in guiding students along the paths that he once traversed forty years ago. Professor DeAngelis has an interest in the issues surrounding undergraduate legal education involving moving undergraduates beyond popular culture’s images of law, the legal profession and the legal system. In exploring these images, Professor DeAngelis has developed an expertise in creating, choosing and using selected media in the classroom to develop healthy debate and understanding of legal issues and principles. He has used popular music in class and has composed songs for use by his students to analyze, study and recall legal principles. He shares many of these classroom resources with interested colleagues at his highly regarded “Legal Studies Classroom” blog site. His longstanding interest in the ongoing public policy debates regarding the proper role of the civil justice system in the regulation of business conduct has led Professor DeAngelis to present academic papers exploring the impact of “Tort Reform” proposals on societal interests. His article, “Social Impact of Tort Reform” won the “Best paper Award” at the 2004 conference of the North East Academy of Legal Studies in Business. Professor DeAngelis earned national recognition in both 2012 and 2013 by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business as a Master Teacher Finalist. He has served as the 2019-2020 President of The North East Association of Legal Studies in Business.
