Biography

Marina Girju is Assistant Professor of Marketing at DePaul University. She has two bachelor degrees in Computer Science and International Economics, an MBA in Marketing and Finance and PhD in Marketing, focusing on quantitative marketing modeling and analytics for consumer behavior and patient experience in healthcare. She brings 15 years of professional experience working in a variety of positions starting as network engineer, technical marketing manager, consumer insights analyst, senior market research analyst to director of marketing for startups and large market research companies and manufacturers in the US market. She worked in the technology industry in Silicon Valley, consumer packaged good industries, for the World Bank and not-for-profit organizations. Since 2002, Marina has also been a commercial reviewer for the Small Business Innovation and Research programs at the National Science Foundation. She publishes in academic journals on issues related to modeling and understanding how consumers make choices and behave when they snack, or use their credit cards, and does applied analytics projects for the consumer packaged goods and healthcare markets.
Marina teaches the Predictive Analytics Certificate Program for the Kellstadt Marketing Center as well as Marketing Research and Predictive Choice Modeling classes for the MS in Marketing Analytics, MBA, MS in Predictive Analytics and Bachelor of Science in Marketing programs at DePaul University. She places a strong emphasis on current marketing and data/text analytics projects that not only earn her students credits for graduation but also build applied projects for their interviews in marketing and analytics careers. Marina trains her students in SPSS and SAS programming and offers SAS Certification Exams sponsored by SAS, Inc and advises them during their studies at DePaul but also in their early careers. Her students are working in a variety of positions in data analytics, marketing/business/consumer insights for AC Nielsen, IRI, Pepsi, Oracle, etc.
Marina has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Middle East, Asia and South America. She is fluent in Spanish and French, loves to garden, bake, run and play tennis with her children.
